Inner Wheel Club of Fairfield
25th Birthday celebration 19th October 2014
The celebration began at 12.00 at the Airport Hotel Conference Centre with everyone who arrived being offered a complimentary drink. 48 people arrived including 3 members from Hamilton East Club and past members of our club who were no longer active. It was good to meet up with members past and present.
The room for our function was lovely and the table decorations of long red roses tied with silver ribbon on mirrors and sprinkled with silver stars in the centre of the table made a striking vision in the room. People spent time looking at the display table of silky pillows, knitted rugs, emergency toilet bags and photograph albums. The cake table with floral decorations around the candle and the lovely iced cake looked really good.
The programme began with our President Denise White welcoming everyone.
Einir Jones as our newest member was invited to light a candle for Inner Wheel to represent those members not with us.
Denise then read out cards and letters sent congratulating our club on reaching 25 years of service to Inner Wheel.
Carole Haigh as our International Board Director gave a toast to International Inner Wheel and District NZ293 Chairman and our club member Margaret Arthur then said grace. We all served ourselves a very nice buffet meal and ate and chatted at our tables.
Margaret Garden gave a very entertaining talk on “women and fashion”. Much laughter at Margaret’s wonderful way of putting situations.
Dessert was then served and more chatter over the table.
Our Foundation President Alison Wilson was invited to come and cut the Birthday Cake. She spoke about starting the club 25 years ago with 28 members.
Denise went on to acknowledge our 25 years of service to the community. She acknowledged Fairfield member’s involvement at Club, District, National and International level by asking members to stand and sit down if they had not held the position called out. It was amazing how many members have held positions over the years in all areas called out. A photo was taken of the Foundation members present.
Tea and coffee was then served and Judy and Clive McGee joined us for this. All women were given a red rose and shortbread made by Erina.
Our thanks for such a successful day must go to Denise and Erina who did the bulk of the organising and work. Thank you also to Norine for the lovely cake and to Beryl Williams for completing the photograph album for this year so far.
Lastly thank you to everyone for coming and making our celebration such a great occasion.
